Victory Over Japan

US Rolls Past Japan With Goals From Zendejas and Balogun

The United States Men's National Team bounced back from its disappointing loss to South Korea with a convincing 2-0 victory over Japan at Lower.com Field in Columbus. Playing in front of over 20,000 fans, the USMNT delivered a much-needed performance that showcased improved cohesion and attacking intent.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino implemented significant tactical changes, deploying a three-back formation and making five lineup adjustments from the previous match. The modifications paid dividends as the team displayed greater fluidity and purpose throughout the contest.

Alejandro Zendejas broke the deadlock in the 30th minute with a spectacular first-time volley, converting a precise cross from Columbus Crew defender Max Arfsten, who thrived playing at his home venue. The goal ended a lengthy scoring drought for Zendejas and provided crucial momentum.

Christian Pulisic orchestrated the attack effectively, eventually setting up Folarin Balogun for the insurance goal in the 64th minute with a perfectly timed through ball. Balogun's clinical finish doubled the advantage and secured his sixth international goal.

Goalkeeper Matt Freese contributed several important saves to preserve the clean sheet, while substitutes Jack McGlynn and Damion Downs nearly extended the lead with quality chances late in the match. The victory improved Columbus's fortress-like record for the USMNT and provided optimism heading into October's fixtures against Ecuador and Australia.
