Scally Ready for Bayern Munich

Fullback Excited for 'Showcase' Against the League Leaders

Joe Scally is ready for another big test against Bayern Munich as Borussia Mönchengladbach hosts the Bundesliga leaders at Borussia Park on Saturday. The 22-year-old right back, who made his Bundesliga debut against Bayern in a 1-1 draw in August 2021, sees the match as an opportunity to exhibit his abilities against one of Europe's elite teams.

"You always get up for these kinds of games," Scally said, who has earned 19 caps for the USMNT. "You always want to showcase yourself, prove that you can play with the best players in the world. So far, it always has played into our favor. We have always turned up for the games." Forbes

Gladbach has indeed been a tough opponent for Bayern, particularly at home where they hold a winning record (23-19-14) against the Bavarian giants. Scally himself has experienced both success and setbacks against Bayern, with an overall record of one win, two draws, and two defeats – including a memorable 5-0 victory in the DFB Pokal.

The match presents additional intrigue as Bayern returns from the winter break with several personnel challenges. Star midfielder Jamal Musiala is sidelined with flu, while Manuel Neuer returns to goal following a rib injury that had kept him out since early December.

For Scally, matches like these provide an opportunity to catch the eye of U.S. national team coach Mauricio Pochettino ahead of the 2026 World Cup. "Bayern is arguably the best team in the world and they currently sit at the top of the league," he remarked. "Games like these provide immense motivation, and it feels like we have nothing to lose. We just have to step on the field and showcase our talents." FootBoom
